When True Night Falls by C. S. Friedman
Review by Alleandra
The World:
The Characters:
Damien Vryce heads up this expedition, joining him is Hesseth, the Rahk woman and Gerald Tarrant. Other characters include the demons Karrill and Calesta, a young girl named Jenseny, and the crew of the ship.
The Plot:
The evil that Damien, Tarrant, and Ciana (along with Hesseth) destroyed in book 1 was only the tip of the iceberg. It is suspected that there is worse to be found overseas, and if it is not dealt with now, the evil will infiltrate the west as well. It is only a matter of time. Damien once again allows an alliance between himself and the evil that is Gerald Tarrant because of the commonality of their cause, and also due to the fact that it is best to fight evil with evil. He needs Tarrant’s power, and Tarrant has his own reasons…but do they, will they always coincide?
Once again, the author’s strength is in the plot, not the development of characters. Her world is scary and very original, and certainly keeps the reader’s interest. In this volume though, I think she went on overlong in areas, although it is still a strong book. And there is Gerald Tarrant. *s*
