I really liked Farseer and the Tawny Man, Liveship was ok. I couldn't finish the new dragon ones though so I am worried about this new one. I love Fitz and the Fool though, it is a dilemma!

Question: Do you think a first time Robin Hobb reader could skip from Farseer straight to Tawny Man without Liveship and be ok? Of course they wouldn't get all the 'ins' but would there be too much missing? It has been a while since I read them.

While I wasn't wild about the very end of Tawny Man, I thought it had wrapped up Fitz' story pretty well, so although I would love to see him and The Fool again, it is with a little mixed feelings.

There are many readers who have skipped Live Ship and enjoyed Tawny Man. I think they miss out a bit but hey, if they don't like Live Ship, then they don't like it.

Hobby goodness! Yay!!! I didn't really care for Assassin and in fact only finished it b/c Shadowkiller lied to me about a plot point that had me excited. I loved Liveship, Tawny Man and the City of Dragons books. . . so hoping I love this one!

Did she ever actually finish that awful series set in the Americas? That first book was just boooooorrrrriiiiinnnnnnngggggg.

I'm curious now C, what was the plot point?

I read it like Liveship > Farseer > Tawny Man. I was thinking maybe if I read Farseer before Liveship I would have liked Liveship more, but I think where Liveship lost points with me was where they turned out to be dragons in the end. Maybe I have a talking dragon prejudice?

I am curious about the plot point too C. lol And yes, she did finish that series. I only made it through the 2nd one. Talk about torturing your characters.

I'll read it for sure. I've enjoyed all her books in this universe so far, so count me in!

Re: the plot point, I believe SK told C that Fitz and Molly would get married or something like that.

I really don't know if I will ever get to these books cause I still have to make it through the liveship series that moves at a crawl. its like watching a soap opera where theres a bunch of talking and the plot moves at a crawl instead of an action packed movie. the writing is good and I made it to the second book but I got sidetracked again. I really wanted to get to the tawny man trilogy to and get to fools fate. such a pretty cover on a book. and I want to know who the golden fool is. like some mysterious ancient high elven character that is the spirit of the earth or something. i liked the farseer trilogy except the ending was kinda cheesy carving dragons and stuff. and who made that wizard wood. robin hobb definitely one of the high fantasy writers in a fantasy novel enthusiasts bookshelf.

Liveship is the true evil. Down with sodism and SWANK eternal. That being said, I finished it, because how could I not? It'd be like calling myself a wotist while not having read Crossroads or The Gathering Tempest. Besides, I love Amber, and how could I not? Contemplating a reread of some or all of the Fitz-fool source material before the new one cuz it'd be be fun. Also contemplating assaulting FFF with a tempest of posts since Allevil has surpassed my post count.

Yes, well I was gone for a year or something. Think I have all the books but not sure about liveship. So much stuff I want to read, though, granted 80% is rereads...

Important question: Did the Fool show up at all in the dragon series that I didn't finish?
Were there any characters in it from the old books?

Anyone have any of the dragon books (rain wild chronicles) they want to sell me on the cheap? I feel I need to read them even if they are awful for completionist purposes. Supposed to run concurrently with tawny man so many I'll read (reread) the two concurrently. The new book is exciting but I don't know what could go wrong now. Hobb will probably kill off molly or nettle and fitz will go over the edge. Also apparently Hobb goes out for coffee before Cons and invites readers along, wouldn't that be fun.

I might have the first two Rain Wilds books in hardcover, but my ankle is tired and I don't fancy going down the stairs again today on my wonderful crutches. I will check though. If I have them, I will ship them to you for free as a regard-gift.

Oh crap, it's Mull. I haven't seen you in FOREVER (well technically never). I thought one of us died. I want them Mike, I don't want you to take the fall for shipping or whatnot though.
