I was supprised there wasn't a topic about The Wise Man's Fear yet.

Is anyone else reading it yet?

I'm about 150 pages in so far and am really enjoying it. It's a nice big long book so I'm quite happy about that as it will last a while.

It jumps straight into the story. There is no messing around, or filling the reader in with what happened in The Name of the wind. If you havn't read NOTW for a while I would definatly recommend a reread first.

I'm really interested in hearing what other people think of it so far.

I just finished it yesterday. Rothfuss has become one of my favorite writers. Kvothe is just the right amount of genius and f' up that he's impossible not to love. I'm dying to know what's made him into what he is in the present day. I want him to have a happily ever after. Ok I don't want to risk being spoilery for now. I'll just say I can't wait for book 3!!!

I have been discussing it at other places where more people have finished. Loved the book....have some theories, have read some other cool theories and hope PR writes FAST. hehe

A lot of people either loved or loathed Kvothe in the first book. I was of the former and even more so in this book although there were times I wanted to slap him silly. As DQ stated, he is a great blend of awesome and not so awesome. *lol*

I've seen in a few other places where people complaining that Kvothe is just too good at everything he does. They didn't like him being so clever. The way I see it though a person who becomes one of the most powerful people in the the world is going to be brighter than everyone else growing up.

TASB, yes thatis what I see a lot of too. Also, that Kvothe is arrogant and annoying. I really love the character though, and don't find him overbearing. And I won't say any more until you have finished tWMF. *s*

I am reading it but am not very far in yet, I only bought it on Saturday as I wanted to finish what I was reading previously. I am enjoying it very much so far and will try to remember to post again when I'm finished. I was firmly in the love Kvothe camp for the first book and I hope I can say the same at the end of this one.
I actually don't want to read it too quickly as I would like it to last a while because I am not sure what I should read afterwards.

I know you haven't, which is why you got *whapped* Why are you whapping me back? Heathen. *sniff*

TKB: Beware, the series is unfinished and Patrick Rothfuss is a slow writer. Now then book 1, The Name of the Wind was published, he had the trilogy 'completed' but decided that the second two books needed rewriting. So several years later, we finally get The Wise Man's Fear, and no idea as to when he will be completing the last book. Most are hopeful it won't take as long, and I guess the fans are at least bracing for a delay. The first delay caused widespread consternation across the land. *l*

Yes Alle I know, I do own the first book but have been trying not to read it because it's irritating waiting for series to finish. However, upon seeing the good raves for it I allowed my mother to borrow it and read it (she isn't a big fantasy fan but I try to enlighten her) and she did enjoy it.

And Alle, if you use a "whapping stick" like this one **shows foot and half long whapping stick** when you whap carly-poo........he may have a harder time to whap you back since your further then arm-reach :-D

In that case TKB, read away! mwuhahahaha! Seriously, its a very good series. I have some minor quibbles, mostly with tWMF, but I very much enjoyed it.

As for whapping, I have a highly developed technique. ;-p He sometimes hits back, silly boy that he is. You would think that after 14 years he would know better, but no.

I don't suspect we will have to wait as long for book three as we did for book two. Pat made a big blog post about the delay. He has quite a few life changing events while writing book two which delayed him. As long as nothing dramatic happens I'm hoping for 1 or 2 years.

Page 486, First section of chapter 73. All I can say is wow. Pat out does himself at times. This book is full of amazingly well written peices of philosophy.

Maybe Pat will get caught in a tsunami and Terry Goodkind will have to finish the series.

Rothfuss lives in Wisconsin so I think the tsunami danger is low. Rhod go read it and we can cheer Qvothe, Raina AND Rand.
