This thread is for discussion of the book License To Ensorcell by Katharine Kerr, up to the end of chapter 3 (page 67 in my copy).

Well I only made it to the end of chapter 2, but figured to kick off posting. :-)

I could barely get through the first chapter,as I was just bored. Why do 99% of all these urban fantasies have to be in the first person? Well KK uses it here too, and I am still on the hook as to whether I like it or not. I guess I am glad that it IS so different to Deverry and yet, I obviously loved Deverry (or I wouldn't have read 14? books about it) so it was a bit weird to have the first person presentation.

We had all the cliches rammed in (okay that is a big overstatement) including werewolves and handsome strangers who the female protagonist initially dislikes but will soon fall in love with. Ho hum. And then the second chapter started and I began to get engaged with the story. There is still not much known at this point, but it started to click with me and I was disappointed to have to stop reading (end of lunch hour.) So here's hoping chapter 3 continues this trend. :-)

I actually enjoyed the start. I think though I'm in the right frame of mind since I'm reading the Dresden series at the same time. Actually, I was feeling a little confused - which urban detective was I was reading about? :)
I liked that it jumped right in and explained as it went along instead of doing a big intro first. The only thing I wondered about was that her family had so many different talents - Remote Viewing, visions, prophetic dreams (ok, those are at least in the same field of 'psychic') but then her brother was a werewolf? Huh?

Yeah, I agree Lannie, the werewolf bit threw me too! I still haven't gotten through chapter 3 yet (I fell asleep as I was really, really tired) so I don't know if that was answered. I am guessing no. I thought the younger brother wanting to become a werewolf to impress a girl was both amusing and stupid at the same time. lol

I did laugh at the obvious reference to Twilight though. Damn, it's actually a permanent part of pop culture.

*lol* I laughed too...I am also hoping that the humor level is good without going overboard. I need more time to read! Tomorrow at lunch I should accomplish more.

So I'm posting a little late. Life hasn't allowed much reading time lately, but I've just finished chapter 3 and... it's not bad! I was a bit afraid that it was going to totally suck. *l*

*lol* How much further have you read?

She has another book coming out later this year, and I think (it doesn't give a description on Amazon yet) that its the 2nd book of this series.

I think I finished chapter 6 last night. I should post about it, shouldn't I?

Yes indeed, the second book in this series comes out later this year, and supposedly a third book next year.
