I'm going with the BJ here.

That'd be Billy Joel, dear ones. He's decade spanning, generation spanning, genre spanning, and a damned fine musician, composer, lyricist and singer - even if he can't do the falsetto too well these days. And he's a pretty funny guy.

I'm putting in a bid for Tuomas Holopainen, keyboardist and lead songwriter for Nightwish. The man has an insane command of different styles... he could do epic symphonic rock (Ghost Love Score, Poet and the Pendulum), pop rock (Nemo, Amaranth), ballads (Meadows of Heaven, Eva, Kuolema Tekee Tajteilijan), folk (The Islander), metal (Romanticide, Master Passion Greed), and even some Native American-ish stylings (Creek Mary's Blood). I believe he's scored several films, too.

Plus, he wrote one of my favorite songs of all time, Ghost Love Score, and my all time favorite album, Once.

I'm gonna have to go with Great Big Sea. Folkish action outta Newfoundland. I started listening to them like 2 years ago, and still spend several hours a day listenin to them...I have 128 songs by them on my iPod, and there are 2 that I don't like, and they are just different recordings of the same song. All of their stuff just make me super happy though, even the sad stuff...I'm goofy like that though XD

Impossible. Really. I can't answer this. It's too hard. It was a mean thing to ask, because now I have a headache. You won't like me when I have a headache.

Because I'm heading into my Les Miserables reread, I'm of course listening to more of my Les Mis Tenth Aniversery Concert CD than ever, which makes me Philip Quast obesessed. I could never possibly single out one artist though. On a side note, I've been introduced to this artist called Holly Brook that I rather like. She makes some spiffy music.

Robert Jordan. He can do grim "The Color of Trust." He can do jolly "Jac'o the Shadows." He can do mournful, the Aiel Death Lament. For my money, paid forward in gold crowns - Andoran weight, no one else even comes close.

...

Except Iron Maiden

Children of the Damned
Number of the Beast
Prisoner
Hallowed be Thy Name

Mmonkey im sure you'll get used to him....he is pretty crazy from what i've seen of him....But then again who doesnt get the taint once they have read WoT....it makes us all turn crazy.....one day you too will fall to it. Untill then I would upgrade his benefits package since the gathering storm is coming out soon.

Ive been thinking pretty hard about this and I have to go with the Beatles. I don't think any artist or group will withstand the test of time like we all know The Beatles will

This is too difficult a question, but I am bored so I will play too and put in U2. For me, the vast majority of their music touches me unlike any other bands, both the meldy and the lyrics. They also give a damn good live performance.

I'll second the live performance part. I often tell people that U2 is probably the only band in the world that sounds better live than they do in studio... and that they are the plantinum standard when it comes to live shows.
