Well, it seems that my year group will face the rise in tuition fees the coalition government will implement. David Cameron will burn. I'll have triple the debt then my sister will have by the time i've finished my degree *she started uni this year*. Completely stupid cutting the higher education system, it won't matter how good your grades are, just how much you can pay to get into the top univerities such as the oxbridge, as their putting an *unlimited* price cap on tuition fees...
What do you guys think?

Considering I'll be about $120,000 (£75,783) in debt by the time I graduate from law school in 2012, from both that and my undergraduate school, I dunno.:P

Ah, that sucks Pat. But atleast you'll get a good job with that degree and be able to pay it off. The English university system's gunna become much like America's; which is bad for me, as im not rich. So in 5 years time, i'll probably be as much debt as you :)

The rising cost in tuition does indeed suck. I myself get my schooling paid by the Raven council, so I only ever need to worry about book costs. When I plan to go abroad(to the U.K. as a matter of fact) I will definately need to apply for some raven heritage scholarships.

heh, i wouldnt really reccomend the UK, especially at the moment, unless of course your wanting to go oxford cambridge or durham. Sure the raven council wil pay your fees.

Well I went to an american university from 1999-2003 and accrued $13,000 in debt, which I suppose is on the low side as for as student loan debt is concerned.

I got you beat, Rho. I went to school from 1999-2006 and accrued about $4k in debt.

Now, law school, yikes. I'm estimated to be in the hole $70k by the time I'm done, which makes me feel doubly awful for Pat.

3 years if you do it full-time, 4 years for part-time.

And a small explanation for my crazy debt...I pulled out the max loans for three years of undergrad. I wasn't working much, and it was how I survived. Yay for the American taxpayer!! *g*

Hurray for Canadian university! We complained and protested when the yearly tuition went up from $2500 after tuition was unfrozen. Granted, it doubled to $5000 almost immediately....

See, forget law school. Go get a PhD *nods* You don't have to pay tuition - they'll pay you instead! whoo whoo! totally worth all the pain and agony!

Heh. Plan B After Graduation (Plan A was law school, so we know how that turned out) was to get a PhD in history or political science. Often, usually around exams, I wonder if I choose the right Plan....

*lol* well, history and poly-sci don't pay their grad students very well, I don't think... But better than law school debt!
Still, the career possibilities of law school are a lot better, so it's a trade off ;-)

Eh, im pretty confused, in England, we go srtaight from completeing A-levels into law school, so like i would take an undergraduate course in Law. Then after 3 years i'd be qualified. Do you's have to have a degree before you can go to law school?

Yes, you have to have a Bachelor's (4 years, here) degree.
