Do we have some DDO players here?

For those who don't know it, DDO is a MMORPG based on the D&D 3.5 rules and set in Eberon.
They went free to play half a year ago and I joined with a bunch of friends.
It's really fun to play, very group-oriented, a wide variety of quests and raids though a bit more grind then I'm used to. But I'm still trying out all kinds of characters, so I won't be bored for a long time.

That's one of those things I keep wanting to make time for. But I need to finish HL2ep1 first. Maybe by June I'll have some time to do that.

What? Such a think exists? I may have to give it a gander on one of my increasingly few days off

Luna, mind hitting me up with a download? Or do you need to purchase the discs from shops like w0w?

Thanks Sakura. :) I think I may end up purchasing it. Would you mind giving me the low down on game play and stuff? Like is it worth it?

Well, I have been playing about 8 month now, and I find it very worth the money I spent on it.

Character creation is very D&D and accordingly quite complicated for a MMORPG, but it also allows for a lot of customization. It usually takes 2-3 failed chars to get a good grip at game mechanics.
There are 11 classes and 6 races available, 2 of each are locked for free players.
Level cap is 20.
Groups consist of a maximum of 6 players, 12 for raids. All outside areas and dungeons are instances, so only party members can join you on a quest. Soloing is also possible, since monsters scale with the amount of party members.
A lot of quests requite several players to complete, but hirelings of various classes are available.
Adventures are build kinda modular. Beside the free quests adventure packs are available for purchase, a lot of quests are build as chains or pre-requisites are requires to play the more difficult (and rewarding) quests or raids.

The payment system is 3-tiered. Either you go free, where 2 classes, 2 races, and a lot of the quests are locked and you only get 4 character slots. If you go VIP, aka pay monthly, als classes, races and quests are open, additionally you get 500 points to spend in the shop each month. Characterslots are bumped up a lot, not sure how many you get.
The third option is buying points for the shop and buying adventure packs (access to a number of quests), classes, races, as well as other options. Once you spend any real money in the shop, you get 4 character slots, as well as some other stuff (gold storage up, more auctions at the same time etc.)
You can also get points for the shop ingame through quest, as well as unlock 1 race, 1 class and some other perks which otherwise would cost money in the shop.

I guess the best option is just to start out as free for some time, it is basically a very extended demo. On low levels you have enough quests to chose from as to not get bored.

If you'd like some ingame pointers, just join the server Ghallanda and send a tell to Mazal or Runja, I'd be happy to show you around a bit.

I had this game at one time but I canceled my account. I'm more of a fan of 2nd edition but that wasn't the reason. Found out i can't really play 2 MMOs at once without becomeing very much, talking to elves in your parents basement kind of situation.

It has been free for some month. Or do you mean the European version?

In any case, you should get a month of VIP subscription with the game. A good way to get to know all the adventure packs for further investment.
