This thread is for discussion of the book The High Wizard of Silvinesh by R.A. Scully, up to the end of chapter 17 (page 232 in my copy).

A lot has happened so far. William has retrieved the sapphire ring. The dark wizards have attacked Thelentia and been repelled. Silvinesh has been destroyed by the plane of fire army which then marched on Thelentia. William and his allies managed to defeat both armies at Thelentia. Then after their return back to Silvinesh they find it destroyed but William is able to restore the white tower. Then we have the big betrayal. So much is happening.

The wizards are the big players so far in the story. They seem to be responsible for about 80% of all combat. The rangers do fire a few shots in smaller conflicts and had a fairly big part in the first battle of Thelentia. The paladins seem a bit overlooked so far. They generally just wade in to battle and get killed. The healers seem to do most of their work after the battles apart from Christopher who fought against the undead a lot. The battles are quite exciting on the larger scale with the spells. However I think with the use of more pre battle defensive magic, enchanted armour and ranged battle healing the fight scenes could reach a whole new level of excitement. This would allow the characters to interact more with each other during the fights to produce even more exciting exchanges with the enemy.

I have noticed a definite growth in the author's writing during the novel and the high use of adjective which I mentioned before have reduced substantially. Half way through now. Keep up the good work Rodney.
